No matter where you place your bet, if you look to bet against Sergio Martinez, you’re gonna get some big odds. And that’s if your bookmaker even has allowed action on the Sergio Martinez/Darren Barker fight on Saturday night.
Bookmakers have made Martinez as high as a 26-1 favourite for Saturday’s fight. It’s hard to imagine an undefeated fighter at 23-0 and the European champion would be such an underdog, but there’s a reason.
Just take a look at his record and the “names” of the fighters that he’s faced. If you can recognize any of the names on that list of 23, you’re a bigger boxing fan than I am.
There’s a massive difference in fighting Domenico Spada for the vacant European middleweight title instead of possibly the third-best pound-for-pound fighter in the world in Sergio Martinez for the WBC middleweight title.
In looking at the odds, the only doubt is whether or not Martinez can put Barker away via knockout or the Englishman survives the full 12.
Just an opinion, but if you’re getting 5 dollars back for every 10 you bet on a Martinez KO, it’s probably as good of a return as you can get.
Look for the Martinez KO in either Rounds 5, 6 or 7.
